ABSTRACT

Background : COVID-19 is a viral infection by the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), common symptoms of this infection include acute respiratory disorders such as fever, cough and shortness of breath. In severe cases it can cause pneumonia, acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure, and death. The increase in the number of Covid-19 cases is very fast and widespread, so a rapid examination is needed to diagnose Covid-19. The gold standard for the diagnosis of Covid-19 is RT-PCR, but it needs to be supported by routine hematological examinations such as hematology examination, leukocyte count and platelet examination to monitor disease progression, as well as assess disease severity.

Research objective : Knowing the number of leukocyte components and the number of platelets in Covid-19 patients treated at RSJ Prof. Dr. Soerojo Magelang for the period June-July 2021.

Research methods : This research is a descriptive observational study with a retrospective approach. Data collection with purposive sampling technique. The research data is medical record data from 157 Covid-19 patients at RSJ Prof. Dr. Soerojo Magelang for the period June-July 2021.

Results : The results showed that the number of normal basophils (100%), low eosinophils (76%), high eosinophils (1%), normal eosinophils (23%), high neutrophils (59%), normal neutrophils (32%), low neutrophils (9 %), normal monocytes (82%), high monocytes (15%), low monocytes (3%) and low lymphocytes (54%), normal lymphocytes (36%), high lymphocytes (10%). Normal platelet count (86%), thrombocytopenia (10%), thrombocytosis (4%).

Conclusion : COVID-19 patients had normal basophils, mostly low eosinophils, high neutrophils, normal monocytes, low lymphocytes and normal platelet counts.
